Abhimanyu Puranik wins Tsaghkadzor Open 2023, Sasikiran third

GM Abhimanyu Puranik scored an unbeaten 7/9 to Tsaghkadzor Open 2023 A. GM Tigran L Petrosian (ARM), GM Krishnan Sasikiran and GM Pranesh M also the scored the same 7/9 each. However, they were placed second to fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The top three finishers remained undefeated. FM Ayush Sharma and FM Ritviz Parab became India's latest International Masters on the same day after the conclusion of Round 2. FM Goutham Krishna H scored 6/9 to earn his second IM-norm. GM Bharath Subramaniyam H is the only other Indian to make a top ten finish. He scored 6.5/9 to be placed sixth. The total prize fund of the was 10550000 AMD. European Club Cup 2023 R5: Offerspill Sjakklubb and Superchess set up a massive clash

Magnus Carlsen scored a crushing victory against Vincent Keymer in the fifth round of 38th European Chess Club Cup 2023 Open. Although, the world no.1 missed an opportunity to trap the teenager's queen, nevertheless his win earned his team Offerspill Sjakklubb two points over the defending champion, Novy Bor. Raunak Sadhwani and Pranav Venkatesh drew against Nils Grandelius and Thai Dai Van Nguyen respectively. Vishy Anand made his third consecutive draw. This time against Haik Martirosyan. Anand's team Superchess managed to beat Asnieres - Le Grand Echiquier. Offerspill Sjakklubb and Superchess will inevitably clash in the penultimate sixth round. 19th Asian Games 2022 Team R7: Arjun Erigaisi ensures India's victory over Vietnam 2.5-1.5

Indian Men got back to winning ways by scoring a 2.5-1.5 victory against Vietnam in Round 7 of 19th Asian Games 2022. GM Arjun Erigaisi scored the crucial win of the match against GM Minh Tran Tuan (VIE). GM D Gukesh was the only other Indian who got a decisive advantage. However, he had a difficult time converting it into a win. His opponent, GM Liem Quang Le (VIE) escaped with a draw. GM Harika Dronavalli delivered the equalizer against WGM Meruert Kamalidenova (KAZ). IM Vaishali R lost her game against GM Zhansaya Abdumalik (KAZ). GM Koneru Humpy and IM Vantika Agrawal drew their respective games. Thus, Kazakhstan-India ended in a 2-2 draw. Magnus Carlsen and Raunak Sadhwani's victories ensured their team Offerspill Sjakklubb register their fourth win at 38th European Chess Club Open 2023. The world no.1 scored a smooth win over Alexey Sarana of Sentimento Ajka BSK. Raunak's hat-trick was in jeopardy as he was lost for quite some time in the middlegame against the Slovakia no.1 Jergus Pechac. Vishy Anand drew his second game in-a-row against Bassem Amin. Anand's team Superchess won against Schachclub Viernheim 1934 e.V. 2.5-3.5. Nihal Sarin drew against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, although his team Tajfun SK Ljubljana lost to Asnieres - Le Grand Echiquier 2.5-3.5. 19th Asian Games 2022 Team R6: Indian Women vanquish Uzbekistan 4-0

Indian Women registered their second consecutive whitewash victory, this time against Uzbekistan in Round 6 of 19th Asian Games 2022. GM Koneru Humpy, IM Vaishali R, IM Vantika Agrawal and WGM Savitha Shri B, all four of them scored comfortable wins. Unlike the last round, all four games ended in 48 moves or less. Indian Men were held to a draw by China. Only D Gukesh had a realistic chance to push for a win. However, it was not easy. The game ended in a draw and the same result occurred in the remaining three games. Indian Men vs Vietnam and the Women will face Kazakhstan in Round 7. Diptayan Ghosh dominates ASEAN Chess Series AMK Rapid Rating Open 2023

GM Diptayan Ghosh scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to win ASEAN Chess Series AMK Rapid Rating Open 2023 Section A. Diptayan finished a full point ahead of the field. FM Zhenyong Jayden Wong (SGP) scored 5.5/7 to secure sole second place. Six players scored 5/7 each. Out of them, FM Andrean Susilodinata (INA) was placed third according to tie-breaks. Diptayan had a full point lead heading into the final round. Since a draw was enough to become champion, that's what he did against FM Ellan Asuela (PHI). The total prize fund of the was US$ 6000. A total of nine teams are at a perfect 6/6 after the third round of 38th European Chess Club Open 2023. However, Offerspill Sjakklubb is the only team which has registered three wins where they scored five game points or more. In the third round, Magnus Carlsen surprised his opponent with 1...a6 in reply to 1.e4. Both Raunak Sadhwani and Pranav Venkatesh won their respective games. Vishy Anand started his event with a draw against Aydin Suleymanli. Nihal Sarin was held to a draw by Andreas Heimann of Schachgesellschaft Riehen. Tajfun SK Ljubljana managed to score a 5-1 victory. Indian Women made a strong comeback by scoring a 0-4 whitewash victory over Mongolia in Round 5 of 19th Asian Games 2022. GM Koneru Humpy, IM Vaishali R, IM Vantika Agrawal and WGM Savitha Shri B, all four of them fought tooth and nail to earn this win. All four of their games went for 50 moves or longer. Indian Men were denied a victory by the tournament leader - Iran. R Praggnanandhaa scored the crucial win for the team. D Gukesh lost in a seemingly losing endgame. However, there was a way to defend which was certainly not easy to find. GM Vidit Gujrathi and GM Pentala Harikrishna drew their respective games. Chess for Youth is back after six years!

Chess for Youth is back after more than a six-year-long hiatus. The 13th edition is slated to start exactly a month from today, on 3rd November 2023. This tournament is the brainchild of the legend, India's second Grandmaster in history - Dibyendu Barua. The tournament has witnessed many titled and strong players not only participate, but also win the event. Seven players have won the previous twelve editions in the Premier section. GM Deep Sengupta won the highest number of times - three and also consecutively. Premier section is a star attraction of the event as titled players take part in this event. European Club Cup 2023 R2: Nihal Sarin perplexes Paulius, crosses 2700, now World no.35

Nihal Sarin scored another scintillating win to cross 2700 in the live ratings. His second round win at European Chess Club Cup 2023 against the Lithuania no.1, GM Paulius Pultinevicius, made him the ninth Indian to surpass the 2700 barrier. This was certainly a long overdue and he did in an amazing manner. His team Tajfun SK Ljubljana won against MRU - ROSK Consulting 1.5-4.5. Magnus Carlsen played his first game of the event and he won it comfortably. Raunak Sadhwani playing next to the World no.1 on the same team Offerspill Sjakklubb also won his game. 19th Asian Games 2022 Team R4: Indian Men crush Kyrgyzstan 0.5-3.5

Kyrgyzstan got crushed by the Indian Men 0.5-3.5 in the fourth round of 19th Asian Games 2022. GM D Gukesh, GM Vidit Gujrathi and GM Pentala Harikrishna scored comfortable wins. Only GM Arjun Erigaisi was held to a draw by FM Ruslan Sezdbekov. India currently has a score of 7/8, a full point behind the sole leader Iran 8/8. Vietnam, Uzbekistan and China are at 5/8 each. Indian Women suffered their first loss of the event against China 1.5-2.5. GM Koneru Humpy, GM Harika Dronavalli and IM Vantika Agrawal drew their respective games. Asian Junior 2023 Silver medalist - Aswath S becomes the latest International Master of India

15-year-old Aswath S secured Silver medal at Asian Junior 2023 Open. This earned him a direct IM title. The teenager is also the current National Sub-Junior Under-15 Open 2022 champion. The boy from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu became International Master by virtue of a direct title rule. At the beginning of this year, he crossed the rating criteria for direct title of 2200 in January 2023 FIDE rating list. He earned his maiden IM-norm few months ago at Silver Lake Open 2023 in Serbia. Aswath became India's latest IM on Friday 15th September 2023. Nihal Sarin scored a fantastic win against Marin Bosiocic in the first round of European Chess Club Cup 2023. The teenager launched a devastating attack on his opponent's attack. While computer might say that the first stage of the attack was thwarted, only a human can understand that it was incredibly difficult to defend. This win pushed Nihal's live rating to 2699. His team Tajfun SK Ljubljana scored a 0-6 whitewash victory over Chess Club Dardania. Pranav Venkatesh and Aditya Mittal made a winning start. Raunak Sadhwani was on the brink of defeat against IM Jasel Lopez. He had a great opportunity to win the game. Somehow he couldn't find it and settled for a draw. 19th Asian Games 2022 Team R3: India decimates Kazakhstan and Indonesia

Indian Women scored a hat-trick as Indonesia lost 0.5-3.5 in the third round of 19th Asian Games 2022. GM Koneru Humpy, GM Harika Dronavalli and IM Vantika Agrawal scored emphatic victories. Only IM Vaishali R was held to a draw by WIM Chelsie Monica Sihite Ignesias. Indian Men also scored a dominating victory 3-1, against Kazakhstan. GM D Gukesh outplayed Kazakhstan no.1 GM Rinat Jumabayev with a beautiful positional play. GM R Praggnanandhaa tricked Kazakhstan's latest GM Alisher Suleymenov in the endgame. GM Arjun Erigaisi and GM Pentala Harikrishna were held to draws by IM Ramazan Zhalmakhanov and IM Nogerbek Kazybek respectively. Raunak Sadhwani and Pranav Venkatesh will play in Magnus Carlsen's team - Offerspill Sjakklubb at 38th European Chess Club Cup 2023. Last year it was mostly Norwegian players with only player from Canada. However, this year, two Indian teenagers and strong GMs will get a huge opportunity to play side-by-side with the World no.1 and FIDE World Cup 2023 winner. It goes without saying that it will be a lifetime experience for them. Nihal Sarin will be seen in action for Tajfun ŠK Ljubljana. Aditya Mittal will play Gambit Asseco-SEE.
