13 Indians set to take part at European Chess Club Cup 2024 starting today
20/10/2024 - The defending champion Offerspill Sjakklubb featuring the World no.1 - Magnus Carlsen is not playing at 39th European Chess Club Cup 2024. Thus, a new champion is guaranteed to be crowned. As many as 13 Indians are taking part this year - ten in Open and three in Women. World no.3, Arjun Erigaisi is the highest rated player of the event, followed by World no.5 and World Championship Challenger - D Gukesh. Gukesh and R Praggnanandhaa will play for the top seed - Superchess. Arjun, Aravindh Chithambaram and S L Narayanan will represent Alkaloid. Vidit Gujrathi and Pentala Harikrishna will return to Novy Bor Chess Club. Nihal Sarin will switch from Tajfun SK Ljubljana to Turkish Airlines. IM Divya Deshmukh, GM R Vaishali and WGM Savitha Shri B will make their ECCC debut for Garuda Ajka BSK, Cercle d'Echecs de Monte-Carlo and Rudar Kostolac respectively.
