Women's Premier 08+09: Padmini leads by a point with 7.0/9

Padmini Rout leads the Women's Premier Championship by a full point and is en route to winning it yet again. She has remained solid and undefeated throughout the tournament and has scored 7.0/9. The most important step came when she defeated Vijayalakshmi S. in the eighth round. Behind her, trailing at 6.0/9, is Soumya Swaminathan. We have an illustrated report with games.

IM Padmini Rout took on GM-elect Vijayalakshmi S. in the most important game of the tournament until now. It was a 6.d3 Ruy Lopez that white ended up winning. Padmini thus destroyed Viji's hopes of winning the title.

IM Eesha Karavade was expected to defeat Mahalakshmi M. and that is what happened.

Vaishali R. was supposed to cause the major upsets in the tournament but she is having a torrid time in Delhi. She lost to Soumya. 

Even Bala Kannamma expectedly went down against Mary Ann Gomes.
