Pranesh M Wins Kanizsa Open 2026, 10 Indians Score Norms
GM Pranesh M scored an unbeaten 7/9 points to win the Kanizsa Open 2026 Group A (Above 2200). In the final round, Pranesh scored a win on demand against IM Petrovskiy Vadym to reach 7 points. 3 other players, including Or Bronstein, Andrei Volokitin, and India's Karthik Venkataraman, also scored the same points to finish in 2nd to 4th place according to tiebreak scores. Last Round Result
After the penultimate round, Andrei Volokitin and Karthik Venkataraman were co-leading the tournament with 6.5/8 points. Pranesh was in joint second place with 6/8. He was in a must-win situation, and a draw was needed on the top board. Exactly that happened, and better tiebreaks helped Pranesh clinch the title and 11.000€

Indian players performed exceptionally well in the tournament. A total of 59 Indian players, including GMs, IMs, WGMs, and WIMs, took part in this event; of them, 10 scored their Norms, and 2 new International Masters were crowned.

The tournament was organised from 15th to 23rd August at Kanizsa Arena Nagykanizsa, Hungary. A total of 224 players from 36 federations took part in this Classical event. The total prize fund was €55,000.
