Men's Premier 09: Vidit inches closer to the title

by Priyadarshan Banjan - 24/11/2015

The ninth round witnessed only three results, and two of them have had a notable effect on the crosstable. Vidit won comfortably against the second-placed P. Karthikeyan, who was relegated to the third position because Murali Karthikeyan won his fifth game in this tournament. In the tenth round, he takes on the leader himself, and a win here would throw the tournament wide open. Otherwise, Vidit has all but sealed his victory. Arghyadip Das won against Swapnil as his sacrifice turned into a deficit in the endgame.

The host of the tournament has made it a pleasure to compete and welcomes all warmly

The men face off...

Vidit Gujrathi played a delicious game against...

P. Karthikeyan, who could not cope up with the immense pressure exerted on him

A beautiful game, where first White broke in the centre with 11.e4, and then in the queenside with b4-b5. This resulted in a series of trades that left Vidit an exchange up, after which he duly wrapped up the game with his bishop maneuver Bf4-c1-b2.
