IM Rahul Sangma victorious at Late Shri Vasudeva V. Dempo Memorial Fide Rating 2026

IM Rahul Sangama of RSPB emerged champion at the Late Shri Vasudeva V. Dempo Memorial Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, held at the historic Menezes Braganza Hall, Panaji. Displaying consistent and dominant play, he remained undefeated throughout the tournament, scoring an impressive 8/9 rounds. GM Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury of RSPB secured second place with 7.5/9 points, while IM Saravana Krishnan P finished third with 7/9 points. In the memory of Late Shri Vasudeva V Dempo

The event was sponsored by the Dempo family in the name of Late Shri Vasudeva V Dempo from 27th January to 1st February 2026.  A total of 184 players, among whom 103 were rated players, participated in this tournament from all over the country, including 1 GM, 2 IMs, and 2 FMs. Total 30 main prizes, Rating Category prizes, and category prizes in U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, with trophies in Open & Girls, and the 2 prizes each for veteran & Women were distributed. Making the total prize money ₹3.90 Lakhs. Organizers took utmost care by providing a good playing AC Hall. They also provided tea and snacks to the players and parents during the rounds.

Champion: Rahul Sangma scored an unbeaten 8/9 to secure first place and won ₹55,000

GM Roy Chowdhury Saptarshi secured the second place with 7.5/9 points

Third place goes to IM Saravana Krishnan P, who scored 7/9 points

The tournament was inaugurated at the hands of Shri Mahesh Candolkar, President of Goa Chess Association, in the presence of Mrs Pallavi Kakodkar, Dnyaneshwar Naik, Arvind Mhamal( Chief Arbiter), Atish Angle, Dattaram Pinge, Naresh Pednekar, and others, by lighting the traditional lamp.


The prizes were distributed by Shri Shrinivas Dempo, Chairman of the Dempo Group of Companies, in the presence of Shri Mahesh Candolkar, President, Goa Chess Association (GCA); Shri Sagar Sakordekar, Vice President, GCA; IA Arvind Mhamal, Chief Arbiter; Shri Dattaram Pinge, Treasurer, TTCA; along with other office bearers of GCA and TTCA.
