
Carlsen passes on his trophy to Vidit
What happened towards the end of the match between Alpine APL Pipers and FYERS American Gambits at the Global Chess League was quite special. Magnus Carlsen scored a fine win over Javokhir Sindarov, but Bibisara Assaubayeva took down Divya Deshmukh with the Black pieces. The other games were drawn - the final game left was the one between Vidit Gujrathi and Daniil Dubov. Vidit went on to score a great win against Dubov. Magnus was awarded the player of the match trophy in the post-game ceremony, but in a beautiful gesture, he gave the trophy to Vidit, saying he is more deserving of it as he was the one who secured the match win for the team!
