Montesilvano, Italy: Exciting Results on Day 2 of the World Cadet Chess Championship
The second day of the World Cadet Chess Championship in Montesilvano, Italy, featured fascinating games and unexpected upsets. As stronger players moved to the top boards and participants settled into the tournament atmosphere, the intensity and quality of the matches increased significantly.
Under 8 Girls:
Day 2 saw all the top-rated girls in this section securing victories. On Board 1, top seed Xin Stella of the USA played a brilliant attacking game, defeating Marina A. Lustosa in just 29 moves.
Board 2’s Chen Zhihan of China, Board 3’s Xia Elizabeth, Board 4’s Zhou Abigail, and Board 5’s Yan Rayna of the USA all secured victories, showcasing the strength of the USA’s young players in this category. From India, Narayani Umesh Marathe scored a crucial win against Yuksel Umay Defne of Turkey, bringing her score to 1.5 points after two rounds.
Under 8 Boys:
In the Open Under 8 section, top seed Timofei Demchenko of Spain defeated Alessandro Federico of Italy in just 26 moves.
Boards 2 and 3 witnessed significant upsets, with 38th seed Daniel Zhu of Canada defeating 3rd seed Pham Han Nam of France, and 40th seed Adinur Adilbek of Kazakhstan overcoming 4th seed Xu Zhihan (Samuel) of Canada.
India’s National Under 7 Champion, Mani Sarbartho, faced a tough loss against Serghei Cardas of Moldova. However, Sattwik Swain and Divith Reddy kept Indian hopes alive by scoring their second victories.
Under 10 Girls:
The top three seeds continued their winning streaks. WCM Alanna Berikkyzy of Kazakhstan, WCM Yunker Alisa of FIDE,
and WCM Yang Aimee of the USA all scored their second wins.
India’s 9th seed Samhita Pungavanam suffered a setback, losing to 38th seed Mehriban Ahmadli of Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, 40th seed Pooja Shree R defeated 11th seed Nguyen Lam Le of England, giving India a boost in this section.
Under 10 Boys:
Top seed Sameh Mohamed Abdalrahman delivered a strong performance on the top board, defeating Ignacy Buklaho of Poland.
On Board 2, Roman Shogdzhiev beat Samar Dayal of England. An upset occurred on Board 3, where 46th seed Oscar Y. of the USA held 3rd seed Marc Llairi of France to a draw. Indian player Advik Amit Agrawal, seeded 17th, continued his winning form by defeating Srinash Katta of the USA for his second victory.
Under 12 Girls:
India’s Pratitee Bordoloi displayed another stellar performance, defeating Stefania Sabou of Romania.
On the top board, 2nd seed Blanka Ejsymont of Poland was held to a draw by 29th seed Amit Baruch of Israel. This result puts Pratitee on Board 1 for Round 3.
Under 12 Boys:
Top-rated FM Wiktor Golis achieved his second win in a hard-fought match against Hugo Bocquenet Drouot. On Board 2, David Lacan of France scored a victory over Khoi Nguyen of Belgium.
India’s Aansh Nandan Nerurkar faced a loss against Fedor Antipov of FIDE,
but Aadik Lenin emerged as the top Indian in this section with 1.5 points after defeating Calix Marchand of Canada.
With 9 rounds still remaining in this 11-round tournament, stamina and resilience will play a crucial role as players aim for the top. The excitement continues as we await more thrilling games in the coming rounds.
