Quality Chess India is here!
I have always been a huge fan of Quality Chess books. In fact I would owe a lot of my improvement in chess to their books. I was a hardcore 1.d4 player until 2010. Whenever, I would be white, my opponents would know that I would push my queen's pawn two squares. One fine day I woke up and decided that I would play 1.c4. I went to the board pushed the c-pawn two squares. My opponent looked at me to check if I was in my senses. Perhaps his hours of preparation had been wasted! I played a beautiful game and won! It seemed like a new door had been unlocked in my chess career. But how do I improve my chess knowledge? That's when I stumbled upon Marin's English Opening series of three books for Quality Chess. They were some of the most amazing opening books I had ever read. I read them from cover to cover!
I can only say that the English became my favourite opening and I started playing it exclusively. Marin's recommendations gave me the direction and with a confident approach towards my game, I scored my first IM norm, qualified for national premier, became an IM, scored my first GM norm and also won the biggest event of my career - Dresden Open 2014.
I remember my first National Premier in 2012. I was playing decent chess but the results were not coming. After seven rounds I was on 3.0/7 with six draws and one loss. On the rest day I decided to solve two tests from Grandmaster Preparation: Calculation. I took 45 minutes for each of the tests and wrote down my answer. The rest of the day I relaxed, took some rest and got ready for the next six rounds. The second half went by like a dream. I scored 3.0/3 in rounds eight, nine and ten and with 6.0/10 scored my maiden IM norm. Quality Chess books work!
I could go on and on about my experiences with Quality Chess books, but let's end it with - I think the one thing that separates Quality Chess from the rest of the publishers is that they never compromise on quality. All the books contain high quality stuff and are meticulously edited. They think carefully about their subjects and choose experts to write them. If you think about some of the big names in chess who have written books in the last few years - Gelfand, Polgar, Negi, Avrukh, Yusupov have all done it for Quality Chess. In the last decade or so, when it comes to chess knowledge through books, Quality Chess has been my go-to publisher.
Quality Chess India
Chess books have always been a great source of knowledge for chess players all over India. However, they have never really been able to get these books at an affordable cost and timely manner. I consider Quality Chess to be one of the finest publishers of chess literature in the world. Their books have helped thousands of players get better. When the Creative Director of Quality Chess and the famous author, GM Jacob Aagaard was in India and Asia last year, I spoke with him as to how Indians are unable to access high quality chess books because of geographical and financial limitations.
Jacob had brought around 50-odd books from Scotland when he came to India. Within a couple of days all of the books were sold out. We felt so bad for our next destinations. But it was also a message to us. If the product is high quality and the price is right a lot of Indians are interested in high quality original books.
Today I am proud to say that Quality Chess India has been launched in our country. These are the benefits that you will receive:
1. Quality Chess original books will be available to you at just Rs.999/-
2. The price of Rs.999/- includes shipping and all other costs. No further costs.
3. You should be able to receive the books within one week of your order.
4. We have ordered more than 2000 books (55 titles) which are stocked in Mumbai.
5. Other countries that will benefit out of Quality Chess India are Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan. These countries will also enjoy the same cost of books - Rs.999/- (shipping charges as applicable will be additional).
A word from the Managing Director of Quality Chess:
“We at Quality Chess have always wanted our books to be available all over the world, and particularly in the powerhouse chess nations, which naturally includes India. It has taken a long time to achieve, as we are based in Northern Europe and our cost of printing is high. But finally we have found a way to make our books available in India at a price that is practical.” - GM John Shaw.
"New doors were unlocked in Indian chess thanks to ChessBase India. We were able to bring high quality chess softwares at affordable prices. Now we are moving one step ahead. Staying true to our maxim of Powering chess in India, Quality Chess India has been started. These high quality books are sure to boost the level of Indian chess to an altogether different height. Our dream is make India the most powerful country in the world of chess and we are working very hard towards it." - Amruta Mokal
