Women's Premier 2017 Round 03+04: Padmini Rout takes sole lead

by Ankit Dalal - 29/11/2017

Four rounds of the event have come to an end. Padmini Rout has taken a small lead of a half point over three of her nearest rivals - Nandhidhaa, Meenakshi and Soumya. Can the Odisha girl make it to her fourth national title in a row? The third round saw two decisive results where Srishti Pandey and Samirddhaa Ghosh slumped to defeats. The two youngsters have to get their act together, the field shows no mercy. In the fourth round we witnessed six decisive games! A fantastic show of fighting chess. Report from Surat by Ankit Dalal with pictures, games, videos and more.

Tournaments like National Premier are quite difficult to handle. We saw in the Men's National Premier how Himanshu Sharma struggled to score points. In the end he managed to score 3.0/13 with four draws, one win and eight losses! Once you are identified as a target, no opponent gives you an easy life. In the 44th Iwasa Women's National Premier 2017, two players are facing something similar - Samriddhaa Ghosh and Srishti Pandey. Both of them are debutants and are currently unable to hold their higher rated opponents. While this can be a harrowing experience, it is surely something that will help them become stronger.

Round 4 - Seven decisive results!

The fourth round of the women's premier was by far the most exciting round.
