When Vidit got knocked out of the World Cup 2017, he was depressed. He had excellent chances of beating Ding Liren, but was unable to do so. In the end things seemed to have turned out well for the Nashik lad, as he was able to make it to the Isle of Man and is now in sole second position with 5.0/6. With three rounds to go he meets the leader of the tournament Magnus Carlsen (5.5/6) in the seventh round. Vidit is black. It's going to be a mouth watering encounter and you can watch the game live at 6 p.m. IST over here.

It's Magnus Carlsen versus Vidit Gujrathi

It was a huge moment for Indian chess when Vidit Gujrathi became the fourth Indian to cross 2700 on the Elo list. At the World Cup he gained 10 Elo points and got his rating up to 2712. Now at the Isle of Man International 2017, he is already gaining 7 Elo points and with 2719 he is now ranked 34 in the World. Today, 29th of September, is a big test for the 22-year-old as he takes on the highest ranked player and World Champion Magnus Carlsen at the seventh round of Isle of Man International 2017.
