Jinshi Bai clear first at Hong Kong International Open 2024, Sethuraman second
GM Jinshi Bai (CHN) scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win Hong Kong International Chess Championship Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. GM Sethuraman S P scored sole 6.5/9 to secure second place. He also remained undefeated. Nine players scored 6/9. Out of them IM Bo Li (CHN) was placed third according to tie-breaks. The top three prizes were HK$ 40000, 20000 and 10000 along with a trophy each. Top two seeds interchange their places
GM Jinshi Bai (CHN) shared on his facebook that he won the same event after twelve years.
There was a meet and greet session with the Grandmasters on 31st December 2024. Visitors also got an opportunity to bullet chess against the GMs.
A total of 58 players including 8 GMs, 7 IMs and a WGM took part from 13 countries across the world in the Open category. The tournament was organized by Hong Kong China Chess Federation Limited at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai, Hong Kong from 27th December 2024 to 2nd January 2025. The nine-round Swiss league Rating tournament had a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
