India wins Silver and Bronze at 23rd IPCA World Individual Championship 2024

Alimzhan Ayapov (KAZ) scored 7/9 to win 23rd IPCA World Individual Championship 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Five players scored 6.5/9 each. Out of them FM Sander Severino (PHI) and FM Sargis Sargissyan (ARM) secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. CM Samarth J Rao scored 6/9 to finish ninth overall. He earned Silver in Men Wheelchair category. Sharon Rachel Abby scored 2.5/9 to win Bronze in Women in Wheelchair category. The top three prizes were €3000, €2000 and €1500 along with a cup, medal and diploma each. A total of 52 players including three IMs took part from 12 countries across the world in this eight-day nine-round Swiss League Rating tournament. It was organized by International Physically Disabled Chess Association and Chess Academy of Armenia at Black Fortress, Gyumri in Shirak, Armenia from 20th to 27th July 2024. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
