Hou Yifan becomes the youngest full professor of Shenzhen University

Hou Yifan makes another youngest record

It is a well-known fact that Hou Yifan is the youngest Women's World Champion in the history of chess as she clinched the title at the age of 16 years. She is also the youngest female chess player ever to become a grandmaster at the age of 14 years and six months. On the morning of 10th July, Hou Yifan's induction ceremony as a full professor in the Shenzhen University took place.

The 26-year-old World no.1 among women, Hou Yifan became the professor of the School of Physical Education of Shenzhen University. She is also the youngest full professor in the history of Shenzhen University.

"Hou Yifan started learning chess at the age of 5 and joined the Chinese chess team in 2003. She earned "Men's International Grand Master" in 2008 and became the youngest female chess player with this title in the history of chess. She won the Women's World Chess Championship for the first time in 2010, becoming the youngest world chess player in history. In recent years, Hou Yifan has achieved good results in many competitions. In 2017, she defeated many men’s grandmasters in the Biel Chess Festival Grandmasters competition and became the first female chess player to win this honor in the history of the event. In addition, she received a Rhodes Scholarship in 2017 and attended Oxford University in the United Kingdom in 2018." - Yao Zhengwu

For the upcoming teaching career, Hou Yifan expressed that she hopes that chess is not just a subject, but to promote the combination of sports and education, explore the role of chess in education, and the hidden value. "How to train high-level players and let them go further on the career path is naturally one aspect. However, after all, it is a minority to take the career path, so I also hope to use chess to help improve the comprehensive ability of students and cultivate their innovation. Thinking. At the same time, it will be popularized inside and outside the school, expanding the influence of chess and benefiting more young people outside the school."

 

Prior to this, Hou Yifan would participate in chess popularization activities when participating in domestic and international competitions, sharing experience and chess technology. Teaching systematically was the first time for her. She said, "In fact, a lot of accumulated teaching experience have a certain degree of interoperability. In addition to playing chess, I will also think about some related issues. I will also consult chess players at home and abroad. I hope that in actual teaching, continue to improve and polish during the process to form a more complete system."
