Five Indians in World Top 18
Arjun Erigaisi crossed 2800 in the live ratings at 39th European Chess Club Cup 2024. However, his November FIDE Rating list published rating is 2799. He is now World no.4 as Fabiano Caruana's fantastic performance at US Championship moved him back to World no.2. Vidit Gujrathi's consistent performance at WR Chess Masters Cup and triumph at the European Club Cup for Novy Bor Chess Club, leapfrogged him from World no.22 to 15. Aravindh Chithambaram crossed 2700 once again and he has a career highest rating of 2706, making him World no.29. Currently, there are five Indians in World top 18, six in World top 29. Vidit Gujrathi jumps to World no.15, Aravindh Chithambaram crosses 2700 again
October 2024 was a great month for the Indians. GM Arjun Erigaisi crossed 2800 in the live ratings for the first time. GM Vidit Gujrathi moved up to World no.15. GM Aravindh Chithambaram is back to 2700+ club. He is now World no.29. GM Abhimanyu Puranik crossed 2650 for the first time in his career, by winning Serbian First League for the second time since 2022. Among the Women, only GM R Vaishali gained 2.8 Elo rating points.
Women: Four Indians in Top 16
Four Indian women are now in top 16. Among them, only GM R Vaishali gained 2.8 Elo rating points from WR Chess Masters Cup and 28th European Club Cup for Women. Currently, there are eight Indians among the top 100 women, one less from the previous rating list.
Countries
India is still no.2 in November FIDE Rating list in terms of average rating of top ten players, 11 Elo rating points behind the USA. The gap between USA and India got reduced from 13 to 11 from October to November.
