Timur Gareyev incident:
As promised we bring you the exclusive video of the Timur Gareyev walkover incident. This is what happened:
At the 2nd round of the 16th Delhi International 2018 Blindfold Chess King Timur Gareyev arrived 33 minutes late to the round. The walkover time was 30 minutes. He was late because he was changing his room. His opponent Koustav Chatterjee was already given the win, but the boy wanted to play. When Timur arrived the chief arbiter Vasanth B Handevoor had a word with him. Koustav and Timur then played the game. In the meantime the chief arbiter also took the view of the appeals committee. When Timur won the game and Koustav resigned, the decision was taken that walkover rules should stand and Gareyev was given a loss.
Why was Gareyev allowed to play in the first instance, why the appeals committee approached, and why was the entire game played? We interviewed both Timur Gareyev and Vasanth B.H. and get to the bottom of the entire incident. What is your opinion?
