Adhiban convincingly clinches Tashkent International Chess Festival 2024 Masters

GM B Adhiban scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win Tashkent International Chess Festival 2024 Masters (≥2100). He finished a half point ahead of the rest. GM Timur Gareyev secured second place scoring 7/9. Azamat Utagaliyev (KAZ) edged past three more players on tie-breaks to finish third 6/9. The total prize fund was UZS 300000000 (approx. ₹1977000). The top three prizes were UZS 1000000000 (approx. ₹659000), UZS 50000000 (approx. ₹329500) and UZS 25000000 (approx. ₹164750) along with a trophy each. The seven-day nine-round Swiss league rating tournament was organized by Sky Chess and Uzbekistan Chess Federation in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 16th to 22nd December. Adhiban performs at 2729

GM B Adhiban was the sole leader 6.5/8 heading into the final round. GM Timur Gareyev was the only player trailing him by a half point at 6/8. Adhiban defeated GM Vitaly Sivuk (SWE) to become a clear champion. IM Almas Rakhmatullaev (UZB) lost to Timur and he finished second. Renjie Huang (CHN) drew with Azamat Utegaliyev (KAZ) and the latter secured third place. The entire festival witnessed the participation of 529 players - 49 in Masters, 140 in Challengers, 124 in Age group and 216 in Blitz.

A total of 49 players including 9 GMs, 9 IMs and 3 WIMs took part from ten countries across the world. The tournament was organized by Sky Chess and Uzbekistan Chess Federation in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 16th to 22nd December. The nine-round Swiss league Rating tournament had a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
