25th Dubai Open R3: Rohith Krishna defies Nihal Sarin

IM S Rohith Krishna played a hard fought draw against GM Nihal Sarin in Round 3 of 25th Dubai Open 2025. Neither player gave any chance to their opponent and a draw became the only result on the top board. IM Nitish Belurkar drew with GM Yair Parkhov (ISR). GM Shreyas Royal's (ENG) ambitious attack did not work against the reigning National Rapid champion, GM Iniyan Pa. IM Ilamparthi A R played inspired chess to beat GM Emre Can (TUR). The defending champion, GM Muradli Mahammad (AZE) and two-time Asian Junior champion, GM Aleksey Grebnev are the only two players with perfect score 3/3. Ilamparthi crushes Can

IM Ilamparthi A R scored an impressive win against GM Emre Can (TUR). IM Jubin Jimmy, IM Goutham Krishna H and FM Sahib Singh drew with GM Ido Gorshtein (ISR), GM Pranav Anand and GM Aditya Mittal respectively.

Position after 21.Nh6+

GM Shreyas Royal's (ENG, 2493) ambitious attack on the kingside 21.Nh6+ did not work out. 21...gxh6 22.Bxf6 Qa8 23.Qg3 Rxd2 24.Bc3 Bd6 25.Nf4 Bxf4 26.exf4 Rde2 the reason White's attack did not pan out the way he wanted is his queen is tied in the defence of the g2-square. It is unable to capitalize on the control of long a1-h8 diagonal. GM Iniyan Pa (2573) won in four more moves.

Emre - Ilamparthi: 0-1

IM Ilamparthi A R (2469) made his intentions clear early in the game when he went 3...g5 in the Sicilian Moscow variation.

Position after 15...Ne3!

15...Ne3! does not gain any material but completely disintegrates White's position. 16.h4 Nc2+ 17.Kf1 Rg6 18.Ra4 Bb7 19.f3 0-0-0 20.Kf2 Bh6 and Black won the game in the next few moves.

The ninee-day nine round Rating Open tournament is being organized by and at Dubai Chess & Culture Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 27th May to 4th June 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
