Kartavya Anadkat wins 1st Varas Chess Festival Rating Open 2024

Kartavya Anadkat and IM Kaustuv Kundu scored an unbeaten 8/9 each 1st Varas Chess Festival Rating Open 2024. Kartavya won the tournament on tie-breaks, Kaustuv was placed second. Marthandan K U and Avirat Chauhan scored 7.5/9 each. They secured third and fourth place respectively. The total prize fund of the festival was ₹1500000, for Classical rating it was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each. The three-day rating open tournament was organized by Varas Chess Academy at GP Birla Centre, Birla Science Center Complex in Hyderabad, Telangana from 15th to 19th October 2024. Magnus Carlsen dominates Tata Steel Chess India Rapid 2024, Praggnanandhaa second

Magnus Carlsen (NOR) dominated the field when he won Tata Steel Chess India 2024 Rapid with a round to spare. The World no.1 defeated former World Rapid champion, Daniil Dubov to secure his title. Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) got a great opportunity to create the only blemish in Carlsen's score at this event. However, he missed the opportunity and the Norwegian escaped with a draw. R Praggnanandhaa and Wesley So (USA) scored 5.5/9 each. They secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. Praggnanandhaa defeated S L Narayanan and Arjun Erigaisi, drew with So on the final day of Rapid. GM Aleksandra Goryachkina won the Women's event scoring 7.5/9. 3rd Home Solving: Solutions Reveal & Top Solvers

The submission window for the second tier of the 3rd ChessBase India Home Solving Championship has officially closed. We are delighted to have received approximately 20 entries across both tiers, with around one-third demonstrating exceptional quality. Although some promising contenders dropped out after the first tier, we are excited to announce the top 5 finalists selected based on their outstanding performance in both phases. The following participants have made it to the final tiebreaker: Pracheta Agarwal, Sayan Roy, Vaibhav Agrawal, Bulbul Nand, and Riddhima Singh. In this express report, we reveal the solutions to all the 12 problems posed and give you rules of the tiebreak.  

Sriram Jha superb at 12th David's Memorial Rating Open 2024 with a 100% score

Top seed, GM Sriram Jha scored a perfect 9/9 to win 12th David's Memorial Rating Open 2024. Sriram finished a full point ahead of the rest. Rajdip Das scored sole 8/9 to finish second. Stephen Malsawmtluanga, Benjamin Lalhmingliana and H Lalrinthanga scored 7/9 each. They secured third to fifth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹156100. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The three-day rating open tournament was organized by Mizoram Chess Association at Ramhlun Indoor Stadium in Aizawl, Mizoram from, 30th October to 1st November 2024. Tata Steel Chess India 2024 R4-6: Magnus accelerates, wins four in-a-row, leaps to the front

Magnus Carlsen (NOR) crushed S L Narayanan, Wesley So (USA) and Arjun Erigaisi to emerge as the new sole leader at Tata Steel Chess India 2024. Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) slightly slowed down a bit as he scored 2/3 to move to 4.5/6. He is only a half point behind the World no.1. They are going to face each other in the final round of Rapid. Among the Indians, only R Praggnanandhaa scored 2/3 to move to 50% score 3/6. Nihal Sarin missed a win against R Praggnanandhaa. He managed to turn things around and win. GM Aleksandra Goryachkina won all three of her games on the second day to emerge sole leader 5/6. IM Vantika Agrawal, GM Harika Dronavalli and GM Valentina Gunina are at 3.5/6 each. IM Utsab Chatterjee scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st CPPF Rapid Rating Open 2024. Utsab finished a full point ahead of the competition. Soham Roy, IM Subhayan Kundu, Rounak Guha Roy and Ankit Das scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to fifth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹225000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. The two-day rapid rating open tournament was organized by Jalpaiguri Chess Players' Parents Forum at SAI Complex in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal on 28th and 29th October 2024. Tata Steel Women Rapid R1-3: Vantika Agrawal in a three-way lead

IM Vantika Agrawal made a great start at Tata Steel Chess India Women Rapid 2024. She started with a win over GM Valentina Gunina. Then she drew with GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) and GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) respectively. In both games, Vantika had great chances to win but they ended in draws. GM Aleksandra Goryachkina and GM Kateryna Lagno are at 2/3 each, along with Vantika. Four players including three Indians - Dzagnidze, GM Koneru Humpy, GM Harika Dronavalli and the defending champion - IM Divya Deshmukh are at 1.5/3 each. Tata Steel Rapid R1-3: Abdusattorov gains early sole lead, S L Narayanan makes a great start

Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) has emerged early sole leader scoring 2.5/3 at Tata Steel Chess India 2024 Men Rapid. He drew with Daniil Dubov, scored a lucky win against Vincent Keymer (GER) who made a one-move blunder at the end. The Germany no.1 was winning before that. He defeated R Praggnanandhaa in the third round after the latter made consecutive error. Earlier, Praggnanandhaa missed a great opportunity against Magnus Carlsen (NOR) in the first round. It was not an easy one especially in time trouble. S L Narayanan, Wesley So (USA) and Magnus are at 2/3. GM Laxman R R, IM Ravi Teja S and IM P Saravana Krishnan scored 8/9 each at 1st Bharatiya Naveena Kreeda Utsav Chess Festival Blitz Rating Open 2024. Laxman won the tournament on tie-breaks. Ravi and Saravana secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Only Laxman remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the festival was ₹1500009, for Blitz rating it was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. Tata Steel Chess India is the strongest and biggest Rapid and Blitz tournament to take place in India. For the first time, Men's and Women's events will take place simultaneously at the same time. Just like the last two years, both men and women's section will have equal prize fund of US$ 41500. The five-day Rapid and Blitz tournament will feature 20 of the world's best including the World no.1 - Magnus Carlsen who returned to Kolkata after almost five years.
