Praggnanandhaa is still on the number one spot in the boys under-12. However, he is now joined by Nikhil Kumar of United States. The two will face each other today.
Praggnanandhaa played a lacklustre opening against Vincent Keymer in the eighth round. He lost a pawn and was very much on the backfoot. But somehow managed to save himself.

The battle between two future world class players ended in a draw!
While Praggnanadhaa is on 7.0/8, the other Indian prodigy Nihal Sarin (right) is just a step behind him at 6.5/8. Nihal faces Vincent Keymer today.
Nihal displayed excellent defensive capablities in his eighth round game against Andrew Hong. Sarin had sacrificed a pawn in the opening and hoped for decent compensation. However, his opponent played well and Nihal had to give everything he had to eke out a draw.

In girls under 12 it's the duo from Nagpur who are keeping the Indian flag flying high.
Divya Deshmukh played a fine game to get the better of Mariyam Mkrchtyan. With 6.5/8 she is in the third spot.
Mariyam has just played her rook to d3. How did Divya respond. Black to play.
Divya played the fine move ...Kg7! Now her threat is unstoppable - to play the rook to c8 and down to c2.
