Qatar 05: India vs. India?!

by Priyadarshan Banjan - 25/12/2015

Quite a few games today were between Indians themselves. There were no friendly draws as the players chose to fight to the bitter end. Surya Shekhar Ganguly defeated Englishman David Howell to lead the Indian contingent with 4.0/5. A detailed report with some beautiful pictures, games, tactics and more!

Qatar 05: India vs. India?!

A number of games in the fifth round at the Qatar Masters Open 2015 turned out to be India vs. India affairs. With 21% of the players being Indians, this is not so surprising.

The youngsters displayed another strong showing as IM Vignesh NR, IM Aryan Chopra, FM Rohan Ahuja, Harshit Raja, and WIM Bodda Pratyusha drew with higher rateds. The only reversal of the day was Adhiban's poor game against Qatar's GM Mohammed Al-Sayed. Meanwhile, Harika had a rest day of sorts when her opponent GM Sam Shankland of USA failed to turn up!

Going into the rest day, Indians aren't doing too badly, especially our boys like IM Shardul Gagare (2470), who has a rating performance of 2756, and IM Vignesh NR, who is performing at 2809!

Pentala Harikrishna defeated Alexander Ipatov (2619) to move to 3.5/5.

IM Shardul Gagare (2470) drew with the Ukrainian genius Vassily Ivanchuk (2710).

IM Vignesh NR (2422) held Russian GM Vladimir Fedoseev (2669). At the end of five rounds, Vignesh has a rating performance of 2809!

Harshit Raja (2325) held compatriot GM Krishnan Sasikiran (2638).

Ganguly (2648) beat GM David Howell (2688). He is the best among the Indians, right now, at 4.0/5.
