Pack your bags, it's (xtra) time for Kolkata!

by Sagar Shah - 02/05/2017

It's a two day rapid event with a time control of 15 minutes and 10 seconds increment per move to be held in Kolkata. However, the prize money is as good as, or even better than a rating tournament! Players from all over India will fight for the top prize of Rs.50,000 and total pool of Rs. 6 lakhs. There is not much time left as the tournament is going to be held after 15 days, however, we at ChessBase India make your task easier by providing you with an option to book your accommodation and travel at highly affordable price.

The year 2012 was a big breakthrough for me in chess. It was the first time I had qualified for the National Premier Championships. The tournament was to be held in Kolkata. It was a 40 player swiss tournament. It was one of those years when 30 players from National Challengers were qualified for the National Premier. Naturally for such an event, a good tournament venue was a sure shot necessity.

The organizers did a tremendous job by renting the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra in Kolkata as the venue

I remember everything related to this place and tournament fondly, as it was the event where I scored my first IM norm. The nostalgia and memories came back to me when my friend and ChessBase India author Shahid Ahmed told me that he would be organizing a huge rapid event at the same venue on 17th and 18th of May 2017.
